Orangutans (or orangutan, other names are mawas) is a kind of great apes with long arms and a hairy reddish or brown, who live in the tropical forests of Indonesia and Malaysia, especially on the island of Borneo and Sumatra.


The term "orang utan" is taken from the words in the Malay language, the 'people' which means human and 'utan' means forest. Orangutans includes two sub-species, the Sumatran orangutan (Pongo abelii) and orang utan Kalimantan (Borneo) (Pongo pygmaeus). What is unique is the orangutan has a close kinship with humans at the level of kingdom Animalia, where orangutans had DNA similarity rate of 96.4%.

Orangutans are found in the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia, which is on the island of Borneo and Sumatra in the Indonesian and Malaysian parts of the country.
